Local Spotlight: The Downtown Grocery | Ludlow, VT

The Downtown Grocery - exterior

Ludlow is home to many unique eateries and delicious spots where you can fuel up after your day on the slopes or after a long day on the lake. Many of our local restaurants have returned to normal here in the Okemo Valley and we are so happy to see both visitors and Vermonters enjoying their favorite dining locations, including both take-out and sit-down options. One local restaurant has implemented a change in the way they do business after experiencing a new life lesson during the pandemic.

Abby and Rogan, the owners of The Downtown Grocery in the Ludlow Village, decided to jump on the take-out train in April of 2020. This new model of running a restaurant allowed them to connect with their young children more than ever as they enjoyed lots of family dinners and quality time. This new lifestyle ultimately led to the realization that their dream schedule is in fact possible.

After ten years of "business as usual", the husband and wife team have decided to evolve their business and offer dine-in service Tuesday through Friday throughout the summer and fall. When winter rolls around, they will be open Wednesday through Saturday. Furthermore, The Downtown Grocery has scaled back its numbers and is excited to offer a more intimate and personal vibe with fewer tables and more space for guests to feel comfortable. Reservations are key and they suggest you plan a good two hours to enjoy each dish that Rogan carefully creates for you.

Our team definitely recommends making a reservation and enjoying the Southern-inspired menu and the handcrafted cocktails this summer.  Everything on the menu is made from fresh ingredients to offer the highest quality cuisine. The chef creates meals surrounding vegetables and fruits that are in season, like the homemade strawberry ice cream! While the menu is everchanging, some of our favorite bites include the Little Leaf Farm Salad, the Lobster Bucatini, the Chicken Dumplings, and the Chicken & Waffles. The iconic blackboard boasts the menu for the week, which can often be found on the Downtown Grocery Facebook page.
