Winter Recreation

There's no better place to enjoy the winter than the Okemo Mountain area. Vermonters embrace our snowy season, and as you'll see, there are plenty of ways to get out and have some fun. Here are our top suggestions for things to do in the Okemo and Ludlow area, including many great options for families with kids.

Winter Recreation in the Okemo Valley and beyond

West Hill Recreational Area
Located about 5 minutes from Okemo, West Hill Recreation Area has an outdoor ice rink and a great hill for sledding. You must provide your own skates and sleds. Open mid-December to the end of March, weather permitting.

 

Taylor Farm – Londonderry VT                                                                                                                                                 Jon Wright and family invite you to join us for a taste of the past. Our two sleights accommodate up to 10 people each. They are box-style sleighs on runners pulled by Belgian draft horses. Blankets are provided on every ride. Sleigh rides are offered on the hour during the weekends and last approximately 45 minutes including a fireside stop in the woods with beautiful views of the various ski mountains. We encourage you to create your own bread, cheese, and dessert picnic from the various Vermont products in our farm store before heading out on the ride.

The Ice House Skating Facility -  Monday through Friday 1 to 9 p.m. | Weekends 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Guests are sure to love Okemo's new regulation-sized hockey rink and recreational ice skating pavilion. The connected building features skate rentals and a warming area with a gas-fueled fireplace. Skate rentals will be available and an ice resurfacing machine will keep the skating surface smooth and in top condition throughout the season. Call 802-228-1406 for more information.

 

Snow Tubing Park - Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
This slopeside tubing park makes a perfect après ski activity for the whole family! The 4-lane tubing park is located just off the magic carpet in the courtyard at Jackson Gore. Tubes are available for rent by the hour. Please note that children must be at least 42" to ride and you must sign a waiver to participate (children under 18 must have a parental signature). You can purchase tickets and see full rules at the Learning Center desk at Jackson Gore. 

 

Kids Night Out!  - Saturdays Evenings from 6 to 9:30 p.m. 

Okemo's popular Kids Night Out Program (ages 6 months to 6 years) and Kids' Night Out X (ages 7-12 years) returns for another season of fun! Kids' Night Out is a child care facility where children are cared for by professionals in a safe and nurturing environment. The night includes movies, pizza and tons of fun activities. Kids Night Out X takes that care to a new level, with even more age appropriate activities both indoors and out - including swimming, skating and more!

 Reservations are required for all Kids' Night Out programs so please call 802-228-1600.

 

Moonlit Snowshoe Tours 
Join us for a snowshoe tour in the woods surrounding the Jackson Gore Inn. Tours will last up to an hour on the snow, across fields and past historic sites. Please be advised, this tour requires walking in snow and is for those looking for a little adventure. Moonlight Snowshoe tours may not be suitable for small children and can be strenuous. The Firepit & Snow Fun Playground
Unlatch those boots and relax fireside under the stars with family and friends. This slopeside gathering spot in the Jackson Gore Courtyard is a great place to exchange stories of the day, meet new friends, and unwind with drinks. It's also a fun spot to sit back and watch the groomers bring the mountain to life, busily preparing the hill for another great day!

 

Torchlight Parade & Fireworks Display

Okemo Family New Years Eve
The Annual Family New Year's Eve Celebration at Okemo is always a huge success.

Activities include skating, snowshoeing, bingo and trivia, horse and wagon rides, cookie decorating and more! All activities end with a fantastic fireworks display best viewed from the Jackson Gore Courtyard! More information is available by calling 888-78-OKEMO.
