To us, the people of Ludlow, Memorial Day is much more than just a day of honor; The day also represents a sense of community with the tradition of the Memorial Day Parade.

You will find the local businesses showing their sense of pride by putting American flags outside their doors, while the town hangs a flag on every light post. A group of students from Ludlow Elementary School reads the Gettysburg Address to those who take part in the ceremony at Veterans Park, while the Black River High School band marches in uniform during the parade, playing patriotic songs. The Ludlow Ambulance, Police Department, and Fire Department cruise through town with lights aglow. The American Legion sends the Color Guard to represent our fallen soldiers. Among the parade, you will find families lining the streets to show their support, proving once again that Ludlow is a strong community.

Please join us in attending the Memorial Day Parade on May 28th, 2018, beginning at 9am. The parade begins at Benson’s Chevrolet on the north side of town and will then proceed to the bridge for the Tossing of the Wreath. Once the bridge ceremony ends, the parade will move to Veterans Park for the presentation of several readings and awards. Finally, follow the parade to the Ludlow Cemetery for an auxiliary showing to honor our fallen veterans and the playing of Taps.

The afternoon gives way to a BBQ at the American Legion Post 36 in the center of town where community members come together to reminisce and enjoy the company of one another. If you would like to continue the celebration into the evening, join Homestyle Hostel at Main and Mountain Bar + Hotel for a BBQ dinner, music from Sammy Blanchette and Saints & Liars, and beer from Lawson’s Finest Liquids.

Don’t forget to stop by our William Raveis Vermont Properties office to see how we can help you to buy or sell your Vermont home throughout Memorial Day weekend! From Hannah Teter to Mikaela Shiffrin and others, Vermont ski schools have produced several Olympians. But let’s not forget the little guys. The Cochran family is looking at their second generation Olympian competing this year.

If we look back at the last winter Olympics in Sochi, 19 athletes with Vermont ties competed and took home 21% of all US medals.

As impressive as the 2014 Olympics were for Vermont attendees, there will be 30 athletes with VT ties headed to Sochi this year. In fact, Vermont produces more Olympian athletes-per-capita than any other state and continues to be a breeding ground for talented winter sport athletes.

We are all proud of our kids and will do anything to support their dreams. So the next time you see a fundraiser for one of our Vermont ski schools, step right up and contribute. Because the reality is, when you contribute to these schools, you contribute to the Olympics.

On that note, I know you are ALL eager to know when that next local fundraiser is! You won’t have to wait long. On March 3rd, William Raveis Real Estate will hold its 16th annual Comedy Night to support OMARA (Okemo Mountain Alpine Racing Association). Check out Comedy Night details and buy your ticket today. Not only will you be supporting the winter athletes, but you’ll be attending one of the best shows in Ludlow VT.

Sun, 04 Feb 2018 13:30:00 -0500 Okemo is Ready for You! https://www.vtprop.com/blog/posts/2017/11/27/okemo-is-ready-for-you/
As you know, Okemo Mountain is open! The snow guns are humming and the snow makers welcome the colder temperatures. We have had some natural snow here in Vermont but most of the trails will be brought to you, courtesy of the Snow Making Team of Okemo Mountain.

You may be thinking that you can't wait until we are buried in natural snow. After all, that's what winter is about in this area. There is no such thing as too much snow, right? But the snow team at Okemo will make up for that until we are inevitably buried under…. You got it…too much snow. Hey, who said that’s a bad thing?

Never fear, regardless of Mother Nature's gifts (or lack of), the Mountain’s team can handle anything that comes their way; there will be snow, it will be groomed. Winter is Okemo’s time to shine and they will not disappoint.

If you are newer to the Okemo scene, check out our Condo Guide. This is a great tool to orient you to the Mountain and what the different complexes have to offer. The best local-secret is that the summer months here are equally as beautiful and adventure filled as the previous. The area offers an abundance activities for the perfect summer escape, making Ludlow the premiere destination for your year-round travels. Our guide will take you through the lakes, hikes, and dining options that you can’t miss on your next visit north.

Located a few miles north of Ludlow along Route 100, Echo Lake provides public beach access through their state park. There is a $4 entrance fee upon arrival, so make sure you bring cash with you before leaving town. The park offers a children’s playground, picnic tables, beach volleyball court, canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards at a nominal charge. The area is relatively quiet and provides a serene backdrop of the Green Mountains for your Saturday afternoon. Closer to town and a short hike into the woods is Buttermilk Falls. There are three falls, each perfect for swimming and wading depending on the water levels that time of year. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy an afternoon of the peaceful sounds of the falls. Full directions to Buttermilk can be found here.

In addition to the lakes, Ludlow provides some of the best spring-summer hiking trails. Healdville trail takes hikers up the backside of Okemo, ending at the historic firetower, which puts visitors at the top of the 3,343 foot summit. Aside from the promise of summer in full bloom, a trip of the tower also offers a panorama of Vermont’s Green Mountains, a view west to New York’s Adirondacks, and east to New Hampshire’s White Mountains. The trail begins in Mt. Holly and is moderate hike, roughly 5.9 miles roundtrip with stunning views along the way. In addition to Healdville, all of Okemo is open to hikers during the summer month. Park at either the main base lodge, Solitude, or Jackson Gore and make your hike as moderate or difficult as you please.

After a long day of swimming, hiking, or enjoying the Vermont sunshine, Ludlow provides excellent dining options to unwind. For sit-down eats, Harry’s, DJ’s, Stemwinder, and Coleman Brook Tavern are among our personal favorites. For a quick bite to go Java Baba’s and Cookster are the best in town. Be sure to check the hours for each restaurant before heading there, as many spots in Ludlow have different hours in the summer months.

Happy Summer!
Summer In Ludlow fitness Fri, 21 Jul 2017 19:39:41 -0400 Take a Hike! https://www.vtprop.com/blog/posts/2017/05/25/take-a-hike/
Ludlow Vermont has a well earned reputation as a popular winter destination, but when the snow melts and the temperatures begin to climb, summer takes hold of the Okemo Valley. We begin to look at other activities this area has to offer. People come to fish, boat, cycle and play golf, but a favorite past time for all is exploring the various hiking trails in the area. There is something for everyone.

We are called the Green Mountain State for a reason. Don't limit your time with us to the winter season alone.

Okemo Mountain Hiking

Okemo specifically has its own hiking trail network. With easy access from both the base of Okemo and Jackson Gore you will find a couple of ways to get to the top. For the more adventurous, take one of the trails. If a more relaxed pace is what you are looking for there is a 4.5 mile road directly to the summit. Many people find themselves taking the "ski" trails to the top; trading in skis for hiking shoes. Just make sure you are ready for some work!

Another popular hiking location is the Healdville Trail which winds to the top of Okemo's 3,340 foot summit. Almost 6 miles round trip, you will use the better part of your day. Features along the trail include a fire tower and several lookouts, which offer a bird's eye view of the local ski area.

There are a couple of vista points along the way. The first will give you a sweeping view of Mount Holly and the Green Mountain chain. Just past the next clearing where the trail merges with a work road you will find the reconditioned fire tower which is open to hikers. This hike is considered to be one of the best and most rewarding. Your reward is finding yourself above Okemo Mountain's 3,340 foot summit for a panoramic view of Vermont's Green Mountains, west to New York's Adirondacks and east to New Hampshire's White Mountains.

Before we realize it, the idyllic skyline found at the top of Okemo will welcome skiers and snowboarders as they come to make their snowy descents. But for now, come explore our area on any of our beautiful trails.

After a long day on the trails, do what the locals do, find a swimming hole and take a dip. Pitch your tent and enjoy a night under the stars.

Who knows, after a good night's rest out in the fresh Vermont air, you may even decide to stay!
